Networked Potentiometric Sensors for Soil Nitrogen Monitoring
Monitoring soil nitrogen species is critical to mitigate the environmental and health impacts associated with over-fertilization. My research focuses on developing soil stable, passive, and printed potentiometric sensors as a component of systems with the goal of measuring concentrations of these nitrogen species over several months (one full growing season). By utilizing low-cost components and networking the sensors across agricultural fields, we seek to enable high spatial and temporal resolution monitoring of nitrogen fluxes from soil into the air and water.
